I have studied Gottmans Method Couples Therapy, and in 2024 I studied Relationship Psychotherapy, achieving a Postgraduate qualification (Advanced Diploma), so I can now understand your relationship difficulties and dynamics in a more specialist capacity and on a deeper level. We can work together to understand the root causes of your difficulties whilst focussing on making changes for your future.
I've had the privilege of working with couples over the last 10 years from all walks of life, backgrounds, religions, faiths and sexuality. In more recent years, I wanted to gain more knowledge and understanding of couples dynamics because it's a specialism, so I studied Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
From my experience in clinical practice, I've learnt that relationship difficulties almost always have roots that go deeper than what's in front of us. Often, one or both parties will be carrying earlier experiences that are quietly shaping how you communicate, trust and connect now.
Couples counselling is a form of therapy that helps two people in a relationship understand each other more deeply, such as how you communicate, where misunderstandings may arise and what deeper patterns are shaping your dynamic. Unlike individual counselling, it involves working with you together to understand what's happening between you – your relationship dynamic. At times, it may be appropriate to have a few appointments with each of you individually, depending on your unique relationship situation.
Common reasons couples seek therapy
Communication difficulties
Dishonesty – a betrayal (sexual, emotional or financial, for example)
Distrust
Feeling unheard or unseen
Aggressive or passive behaviours affecting your relationship
Loss of sexual intimacy
Changes following the arrival of children
Help with separation or divorce
There may be other reasons for you and your partner to explore couples counselling, please reach out for an initial consultation to learn more about how we can work together.
Whether you’re going through a separation or wanting to improve your relationship and sex life, I am here to support you and offer a listening, expert ear.
I do not have an agenda to keep couples together, but I may point out that couples therapy isn't for you or it may be time to end your relationship.
I've learnt, through my experience in helping couples, that both of you need to be engaged in the work, both want to change or are at least curious, and are willing to make an effort to learn and create the change. If that’s not the case for you both, then individual therapy may be a better place to start so you can explore how you’re affected within the relationship on your own terms.
If you want help to improve your relationship, then I'll help you from a Cause, Affect and Change lens, creating a more thorough and long lasting change for your relationship not just promising you a quick fix, which isn't possible.
In your 1st appointment, we'll explore in greater detail your reasons for seeking therapy and your goals, what you want to change and why. We'll also explore what you love about each other or have lost sight of. This appointment will last for 75 minutes (1 hr 15 minutes).
In the second appointment , I'll meet with you both individually in separate hour-long appointments where I will find out about you as an individual, how you experience your relationship, your past relationships and childhood.
From appointment three, I’ll have a clearer picture of what's impacted your relationship and I’ll build a plan towards where you want to be. At times, some people realise couples therapy isn't for them, or that they want to end their relationship. I can support you both through a separation/divorce if necessary.
Our work together requires regular committed weekly appointments, which is essential to increase awareness and create change.
